The Irish Crochet Lace Revival along with lacemakers living in Clondalkin, lacemakers connected to the area but no longer living there and artist Fiona Harrington have been working on a project that aims to celebrate the rich history of crochet lace in the area and reconnect to this important local history.
The lacemakers will create a replica of the Clondalkin Round Tower using traditional Irish Crochet Lace techniques and copper wire, that will eventually be on permanent display at the Round Tower Visitor Centre in Clondalkin.
The Launch of the finished artwork will take place on August 16th at Clondalkin Library and all are welcome to attend. As well as the finished artwork, the artist and lacemakers will be present on the night to talk about the process and to display other samples of Irish Crochet Lace created by the group.

This project is a collaboration between local lacemakers in the Clondalkin area, the Irish Crochet Lace Revival, artist Fiona Harrington and people who are connected to the area and its history of lacemaking, but no longer living there The lace used in this piece was made by many hands, from allover the world, some of whom are direct descendants of the lacemakers who worked in Sybil Connolly’s Atelier. The techniques and patterns have been carefully selected to ensure the rich history of lacemaking in Clondalkin is reflected, as well as using adapted patterns that were used in Connolly’s designs.
