The Sound of Clay
“The Sound of Clay” is the first solo ceramic exhibition by Gatothorceramica exploring the meeting point between sculpture, sound, and human interaction. Through this project, Adriana aims to reimagine the traditional role of ceramics — moving beyond form and function to embrace sound, rhythm, and movement as part of clay’s expressive potential.
Each piece she creates is both a visual artwork and a playable ceramic instrument, designed to evoke the textures, rhythms, and voices of nature and animals. These sound sculptures embody the living spirit of the material — how earth, air, and fire merge to create resonance. She wants visitors to touch, play, and listen, transforming the exhibition space into a shared experience of vibration and connection. Her goal is to awaken a deeper awareness of how natural materials can communicate through sound, gesture, and interaction.
Exhibition Format
The exhibition will feature 20 – 25 handmade ceramic sound sculptures, ranging from small handheld instruments to medium-sized pieces, each created specifically for this occasion. All works are hand-built and glazed, representing a range of instrument types and sound qualities — some soft and melodic, others deep and earthy. Each piece draws inspiration from natural elements and animal forms, linking visual identity to sonic expression.
Visitors are encouraged to interact directly with the instruments, exploring their sounds and tactile surfaces. Cleaning wipes will be provided before and after handling, ensuring care and safety. Adriana wants the public to experience ceramics not only as objects to view but as living instruments that come to life through touch and sound.
Live Creation
Throughout the seven days, Adriana will work daily inside the Kiosk, hand-building a large-scale ceramic sound sculpture visible through the open windows. This ongoing process will allow the public to observe and engage with her methods, and to experience the physical and creative labour behind each piece.
The sculpture will evolve throughout the week, exploring ideas of balance, sound, and transformation. It will culminate in a closing event on the final evening, where she will present and perform the completed work — marking both an end and a new beginning in the creative cycle.
