An illustrated talk with Fiona McKelvie featuring demonstrations by Rosemary McCartney and printing on linen with Lucy Turner
Join us for an afternoon of all things linen in the stunning surroundings of the Echlinville Distillery on the Ards Peninsula.
Enjoy a refreshing flax seed infused Weaver’s Dry Gin* on arrival before textile specialist Fiona McKelvie leads you on a journey through the history of Irish linen. Exploring the journey from flax flower to table linen you will learn about the design and manufacturing heritage. There will be an opportunity to see and discuss some rather special examples of linen and artefacts, many of museum quality.
Following a short break, and a 2nd Weaver’s Dry Gin, weaver and spinner Rosemary McCartney of Simply Spun will demonstrate dressing the distaff with flax which will be spun into linen yarn.
End your afternoon with local print maker Lucy Turner who will guide you through a hands-on activity where you will screen print onto linen making your own unique piece of art to take home.
