Tapestry weaving workshop suitable for beginners. Those with some experience are also welcome.

Discover the wonderful art of tapestry weaving and learn about the history of weaving in the local area of Sydenham, East Belfast.

Tapestry weaving is a traditional handcraft conducted on a wooden frame loom. In the workshop you will learn a variety of techniques and use these to create your own contemporary woven artwork.

Tapestry weaving techniques covered in the workshop will include plain weave, blocks of colour, diagonals, lines, colour changing and hatching.

We will use some photographs from the local area as inspiration but participants are more than welcome to bring their own image if they prefer, which can be completely unrelated to the history of the area. You will be guided to design and weave a simple composition focusing on colour and form that is achievable within the allocated time. By the end of the day you will have a finished woven piece to take home.

Tapestry weaving is a lovely meditative craft. Come along, slow down, develop some heritage craft skills and learn some local history!

All equipment, yarn and frames will be supplied. The frames will be pre-warped to make the most of the weaving time.

The workshop is limited to 6 participants to ensure there is plenty of time for individual tuition. Pre-booking is required.

Tea, coffee, and traybakes will be provided.

The workshop price is a special rate for August Craft Month.
