‘She Stitches Pieces of Material’ is a retrospective of works completed over the past 12 years by Caroline Moore.
Many of the works were made in response to ‘Open Calls’ or invitations to participate in group exhibitions but they have never previously been shown together. These works combine a variety of stitches and patches onto linen fabric including vintage linen napkins, linen bolsters and pillowcovers and smaller linen clothing remnants.
Some of the fabric is distressed, rust dyed and/or screen printed giving the pieces a renewed look and sense of purpose. The work is informed by the many textile cultures from around the world such as Korean Pojagi, Indian Banjara, Japanese Boro, African Kuba, Turkmen embroideries among others which are all age-old techniques found on utilitarian clothing, household and personal items. Local Clanrye Lace Techniques are incorporated into some of the artworks.
