Online Lampworking Workshop- One Day with Laura Quinn
About the event
In this one day online workshop Laura will briefly cover how she set up her home lampworking studio. You will cover some beginner to intermediate techniques which you can practice alongside if you have a lampworking set up yourself, or just watch and enjoy to practice yourself at at a later stage. She will use both soft glass, and borosilicate glass, and the differences between these will be explained during the class. In this workshop you will learn how to make a basic bead and some borosilicate sculpting including some beautiful botanical sculptures.
It will be a jam packed workshop full of demonstrations and discussions. The workshop will be interactive and limited to 8 participants so that each person gets a great experience. You will be welcomed to participate by working along side, asking questions and feeding back about your own lampworking experience if you have any.
Whether you’re new to lampworking, or have been practicing this technique for a while, this one day workshop will have something for you.
This course will be hosted on Zoom. Laura will email you one week prior to the course date with your course notes and Zoom link.

Lampworking is the process of using a small, hot flame to shape and sculpt glass. Some call it glass blowing on a smaller scale. It is an ancient technique and is still used widely to this day to create a whole range of glass creations from jewellery to sculpture to chandeliers.
About the instructor:
Laura Quinn is a multi-award winning maker of contemporary glass sculpture. She first started making with glass whilst studying at the National College of Art and Design, where she graduated from in 2015, since then she has worked in glass studios in Estonia, New York and the UK. She achieved her MA from Arts University Plymouth in 2019. She now works as the Glass Technical Tutor in the University for the Creative Arts in the UK, where she teaches the next generation of glass artists and continues to hones her own craft by creating new work including interactive sculptures, lighting and wearable glass pieces.
In recent years her work has received international recognition having been awarded the Golden Fleece Award and the RDS Craft Bursary in 2022, two of Ireland’s most prestigious art and craft awards, and being selected for the Ireland Glass Biennale in 2019, 2023, and the British Glass Biennale in 2022. Most recently Laura was awarded funding from the highly prestigious Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) to undertake further training in glass this summer.
