Introduction to the basics of creating nerikomi patterns
Nerikomi is a traditional hand building Japanese technique of forming patterns with coloured clay which can be used to create any number of different designs.
In this small and relaxed workshop, you will create an attractive and functional trinket dish with an embedded nerikomi pattern. All of the tools and materials will be provided, and I will be on hand to help. A variety of coloured clays will be ready-mixed for you to choose from for your design, and you will be shown how to layer colours to make beautiful patterns. The workshop will cover health and safety considerations, and general tips for working with porcelain. No prior experience necessary.
Corinne Price is a ceramic artist based in Northern Ireland. Her colourful ceramics are made using a combination of nerikomi and another traditional Japanese technique – neriage (wheel throwing using coloured clay pattern).
The firing of up to two dishes is included in the price.
Tea and coffee provided.
