Natural dye workshop
About the event
Learn about sustainability in textiles, and immerse yourself in the absorbing and enjoyable world of natural dyeing. Lucy will take you on a short guided walk along the nearby river Suir to gather wild plant materials to make dye.
In this workshop she will explain the process of dyeing linens and cottons which is a little different to working with wools and silk. Participants will learn how to prepare the fabrics/yarns and will create a dye bath from plants. Everyone will do some dyeing in the afternoon & try out some colour alterations, and will go home with their own dyed cloth/yarn, as well as feel confident to do some natural dyeing in the future. Notes and mid morning refreshments will be provided!
All materials will be provided. Please wear old clothes in case of splashes and suitable clothing eg sun hat, rain wear as applicable!

Adults and 16+
Ages 12 to 16 may join if accompanied by an adult. (12 to 16 half price)
Accessibility
There is a wheelchair assessable toilet in the gallery, as well as in the nearby river car park. Class unsuitable for wheelchair users due to dye pot height

Additional information
Lucy will teach you about making colour alterations and solar dyeing. You will come home with different coloured fabric samples and notes & helpful resources to help you when dyeing in the future. ‘.
Tea/coffee provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own lunch or eat in a local venue.
