Join Mary in working studio to learn how quilts are made.
About the Maker
I started making patchwork quilts in 1992. Although I loved to sew everything from baby clothes to wedding dresses, quilting captured my heart with its combination of practicality, artistic expression, and a historical connection to the traditional skills of American women.
Since moving from Madison, Wisconsin 18 years ago, I have been making quilts in my studio on Inis Oírr. Based on traditional patterns with a modern aesthetic, I am strongly influenced by the flowers, fields, and seascapes of my home in the West of Ireland.
I’m currently moving in the direction of sustainable sewing…using what I have, upcycling bits and pieces of fabric, old clothes, and woolen factory offcuts. You will find these new/old pieces in my online shop.
