Martin Ryan’s Woodart exhibition will run at Cashel Library between August 4th – August 31st! Don’t miss the official opening by Cathaoirleach Marie Murphy on Saturday, August 8th at 11am – all welcome.
Martin specialises in segmented woodturning for which he has won awards from the Irish Woodturners’ Guild; he was also the recipient of Design & Crafts Council Ireland’s Future Makers Award in 2024.
Segmented woodturning is the process of joining different coloured woods at various angles and sizes to form a variety of patterns and designs on the finished product. The amount of segments in any one piece can vary from 100 to over 1000 depending on the size and design.
All pieces are once-off and unique. His inspiration comes from Greek, Native American and Arabic cultures. Over the past few years Martin has also been heavily influenced by Irish heritage, for example the Rock of Cashel, The Giants Causeway and Holycross Abbey.
All his pieces are designed and handcrafted in his workshop in Clonboo, a rural locality in County Tipperary between the villages of Clonmore and Templetuohy, known for its quiet countryside ambiance and close-knit community.
