Join Heather as you learn the Japanese art of mending broken ceramics with gold. It’s a relaxed, hands-on session for beginners – no experience is needed!
• Hear a very brief history of kintsugi
• Use pre-broken ceramics
• Learn the basic modern Kintsugi repair method
• Apply gold glue mixture to highlight the restored cracks
• Reflect on theme of beauty from brokenness.
• Take home your repaired piece, along with a reflection card and some gold mica powder.
Coffee and tea included
All equipment is provided, including a pre-broken ceramic, however feel free to bring your own ceramic for the session if you like (providing it’s not in literal smithereens! Broken into 5 or 6 pieces would be enough).
About the Maker
Heather has been living in Belfast for the past 10 years. She has always been drawn to using whats broken/discarded to transform them into something new and interesting. Kintsugi is one of those things that satisfies this creative itch, and she began sharing what she was learning through kintsugi with others for 2 years, before recently setting up Smithereens to bring kintsugi workshops to the public.
