Additional information

“Helena Golden is an artisan basket maker based in county Leitrim. Her love for the traditional craft of willow weaving was born in Leitrim and just a few years ago she took the leap and transitioned into traditional crafts as a fulltime career. Her career and popularity increased very quickly, no doubt thanks to her passion for this traditional heritage craft. She delivers workshops in basket making throughout the country but is very proud to host her full day basket making workshops in her home county of Leitrim. Due to her reputation and the huge community she has built around basketry, people now travel from all over Ireland to attend her workshops.

Her passion is to make heritage crafts inclusive for everyone. She regularly works with community groups throughout Leitrim and beyond including, men’s sheds, women’s sheds, schools, ETBs, county councils, women’s groups, care homes, resource centers and age action groups (the list goes on). She adapts her workshops and basketry for any group that reaches out to ensure that all participants leave with a feeling of pride and accomplishment and with a beautiful willow creation.

It is clear from her reviews, social media and popularity that Helena has the unique skill of being a modern-day businesswoman, who also embodies all that is traditional about Ireland, warm, welcoming, fun and a great lover of tales and the craic in her workshops.

Cultural heritage is about so much more than the craft itself. It is about community, people coming together, memories shared and stories told. It is about building something with our hands and our hearts and Helena does all those things just beautifully. I hope that Helena gets the recognition she deserves for her passion and perseverance to keep heritage craft alive and well, bringing back so many memories of times gone by for our older generations, and instilling pride and passion for the craft for future generations.”
