Mala Beads workshop

Make a traditional knotted Mala necklace with gemstones.

Our one day, in-person workshop in Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Tulsk, Co Roscommon F45 HH51 on Saturday 15th August 2026, 10am to 3.30 pm approx.

We will be working in an upstairs room, there is no lift. There is free car parking, onsite cafe and museum.

Workshop fee is €140. You can choose to pay a non-refundable deposit of €50 to book your place and pay the remainder on the morning of the workshop or pay in full now to secure your place.

What is a Mala: –

A Mala is a beaded necklace typically consisting of 108 beads knotted together, plus a larger “guru bead”. It’s a tool used in various spiritual practices or meditation, which involves repeating a mantra or phrase. Sometimes called a Japa Mala, Yoga Mala or Zen Mala.

The beads, traditionally 108, represent the universe and various aspects of life. There are 108 energy centres in the body connecting at the Heart Chakra. The guru bead, marks the beginning and end of the counting cycle and symbolizes the teacher or the divine. The tassel represents connection to spirit or enlightenment.

You can also wear it as a beautiful, fashionable necklace. We will be making our Malas with genuine gemstones – healing crystals – so you also have the added benefit of the gemstones. Making a Mala is a very mindful exercise. When I make a Mala, I say a blessing for the wearer with each knot I tie, to infuse it with even more positive energy.

We will be knotting the gemstone beads on cord thread.

This is a full day workshop, 10am to 3.30pm approx. You may wish to bring a packed lunch, or dine in the onsite cafe. Tea/coffee will be provided.
