Making Plaster Sprig Moulds

Sprig moulds are a great wat to at texture or 3-D additions to your work, it works really well for fine detail work as well as repeat patterns.

In this 3-hour spring mould-making workshop, you will gain hands-on experience in creating simple yet effective plaster moulds suitable for slip casting or press moulding techniques.

Designed for beginners and those with some experience, the session introduces the fundamental principles of mould making, including how to prepare objects for casting, mix and pour plaster safely, and release finished moulds.

Participants will learn about selecting appropriate objects with simple forms, using clay to create casting beds, and constructing containment walls for clean mould edges.

By the end of the workshop, each participant will have produced a mould ready for use in their future projects, as well as the knowledge and confidence to replicate the process independently.

The workshop also covers basic studio safety, proper tool use, and troubleshooting common problems in the mould-making process. All materials and tools are provided.
