Island Threads – Crafting with Rathlin Wool
Branson Centre, Rathlin Island | August Craft Month

Date: 7th August

Join researchers Alison Gault and Anna Duffy for a hands-on workshop celebrating the natural beauty and heritage of Rathlin wool. In this relaxed and creative session, participants will learn how to craft a wrapped wool wall hanging using locally sourced wool that’s been naturally dyed.

Discover traditional techniques, explore the textures and colours of island wool, and take home a handcrafted piece inspired by Rathlin’s landscape.

Part of the Future Island-Island project, this workshop celebrates sustainability, transforming local Blackface wool into yarn and rope through a fully traceable, community-led process.

There will also be a photography presentation with Johnny Mitchell. Johnny is a wildlife photographer with a special love for capturing the raw beauty of Rathlin Island. Johnny will share his collection of images, telling us the untamed stories of the island he loves.
