Creative Ceramic Workshop: Embracing Neurodivergent Thinking

Featured Image

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore ceramic art through the lens of neurodivergent thinking, specifically tailored for individuals/artists who identify as dyslexic, dyscalculic, or ADHD. The core aim is to illuminate the distinct strengths of dyslexic thought processes and to demonstrate my personal approach to creative production. As a neurodivergent artist Andrew will talk about his journey and experience.

Workshop Focus and Methodology

Participants will be encouraged to harness their individual creativity and cognitive styles to develop their own interpretations of one of my sculptures. The emphasis is on fostering personal expression rather than adherence to a single “correct” outcome. My role will be that of a guide and facilitator, empowering participants to explore and innovate.

Each participant will receive a comprehensive kit of tools and clay for use during the session. While the objects created on the day will be recycled as part of a sustainable practice, the workshop fee of £30 includes the tools and a ball of clay for participants to take home, enabling continued skill development at their own pace.

Venue and Context

The workshop will be held at 2 Royal Avenue, Belfast, as an integral part of Andrew Cooke’s solo exhibition, “Animal Instincts,” featured within August Craft Month. Andrew Cooke will provide participants with a guided tour of his exhibition, offering further artistic inspiration and context.

Important Information

This is a one-day workshop, strictly limited to 10 participants to ensure a focused and supportive environment. The specific date will be confirmed shortly.
