Bookmaking with Letterpress Workshop

Take part in a creative book-making workshop for August Craft Month.

The focus of this workshop is primarily to create memory notebooks, but each participant will have time to try their hand at letterpress printing, to include the theme of memory.

We will provide a brief overview of the historical significance of the  press before you print your own memory-themed notebook covers and an inside title page. We have the option to print in Irish and English, provided the letters have no fada.

Workshop highlights:

  • Create a hand stitched A5 notebook with letterpress printed cover.

  • We will typeset and print a poem related to memory, we will create an edition between the group to learn the process.

  • Learn the art of letterpress printing and make a simple notebook to take home.

  • Focusing on basic book structures, come and learn simple folds and bindings.

  • This group is limited to 6 people, therfore, booking is essential.

  • No previous letterpress printing or bookbinding experience required.

  • Take a tech detox and immerse yourself in this hands on art workshop

     

All materials included within reason (we will be using a variety of quality recycled papers, Japanese Awagami papers, lined papers, waxed thread, non-toxic sustainable paints, rubber-based letterpress ink) Tea, coffee, biccies included.

Feel free to bring your own paper or sketches, writing, photos and anything you wish to include.

Some of the people who join us at the workshops may be practising creatives and others will be absolute beginners. All are welcome! You just need to bring an open mind and you will create something you will cherish.

Blueway Art Studio is on the ground floor so there are no stairs to climb. However, it’s an old building with a smaller than usual door so not all wheelchairs fit through. Comfortable clothes and shoes are ideal for this workshop, where we will be working with inks. Wear things you won’t mind picking up marks! What’s included in the price? Just bring yourself! All materials, and tea and coffee are included. If you’re You may either bring your own lunch or opt for the local community café – known as the Old Hardware. It’s a great place to find hand-made scones or cakes, and Mel’s Gastro Pub across the road from the Blueway Studio, serves food from 2pm at the weekends and from 5pm during the week.There are lots of options for things to do, places to stay, eat and drink in nearby Athy too.
