Come and try your hand at making something to take home.

Laois Quilters plan to spark interest in Patchwork and Quilting by demonstrating how patchwork bookmarks can be made without a sewing machine.

Young and old will be shown paper foundation piecing technique by hand. All fabrics, threads and notions for visitors will be available free of charge and we plan to complete bookmarks to bring home with us.

Examples and Quilts made by the group will be on display to be discussed with those who are interested.

Taking place on Saturday 23 August 2025 from 10am to 2pm in the Library in Mountmellick

“Laois Quilters is a group that was founded in 2018 to promote patchwork and quilting in the Midlands of Ireland. We meet monthly in Portlaoise to sew together and help and encourage one another to make traditional as well as art quilts. By organising an annual exhibition of quilts in the Library of Mountmellick, we promote quilts as a visual art. The members also make a group quilt biennially that is raffled to raise money for a chosen local charity.”
