Join us in celebrating a decade of creativity and collaboration at the Top Floor Art Studio Group’s special exhibition, “Travelling Threads”. Over the past ten years, our collective has woven a rich tapestry of experiences, skills, and artistic growth. This milestone exhibition showcases a diverse array of unique pieces that reflect our journeys – each work a testament to the techniques we’ve explored and the bonds we’ve formed. From vibrant textiles to innovative mixed media, “Travelling Threads” invites you to experience the stories behind our art and the evolution of our craft. Come immerse yourself in our shared narrative and witness how our travels, through physical space, time, and creativity, have shaped us as artists.
Over the years, our group has become passionate about a variety of community service projects. These have often included issues around the environment and sustainability, women’s empowerment and support, mental and physical health concerns both at the individual and the societal level, and exploration of our relationship and connection to nature and the world around us.
Our exhibition this year offers not only a glimpse of our inspired ventures and investigation into new techniques and textile experimentation, but it extends an opportunity for the public to participate interactively alongside us. Our installation, titled the Fabric Mountain, welcomes members of the public to choose fabric off-cuts from a curated stash in exchange for a small donation to our chosen charity, Belfast and Lisburn Women’s Aid. Then, members are encouraged to enter our competition and embark on their own textile journey and collect some amazing prizes. The competition, Find Me, Make Me, Finish Me will have several categories and will run for 6 weeks after the close of the exhibition so plenty of chances to win!
About Us
Formed in 2015, the Top Floor Art Studio Group was originally a means of bringing textile artists together.
It quickly developed into an art collective dedicated to –
• the research and integration of traditional and innovative textile techniques.
• the principles of material conservation and sustainability.
• the support and spread of heritage textile skills in Northern Ireland.
With an established reputation for the excellent facilitation of traditional textile skills the group have been engaged by organisations such as the Linen Biennale NI, Lagan Navigation Trust, ArtsEkta, Down Community Arts and Harmony Community Trust to deliver workshop programmes and participation opportunities for the public.
