How to Build a Church: Textile Workshops with Ann Fleeton – Hand sewn folded hexagons

Discover the traditional craft skills that helped build and beautify Ireland’s historic churches and monuments

Set within the remarkable surroundings of St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, the new “How to Build a Church” Workshop Series offers participants the opportunity to learn directly from experienced craftspeople in an authentic historic setting.

Each workshop celebrates the craftsmanship that has shaped Ireland’s architectural and cultural heritage for centuries and gives attendees a unique perspective on how St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church moved from plans on paper to blocks and mortar.

Taking place over National Heritage Week, participants can choose from a range of traditional craft disciplines, including:

• Wood Carving
• Iron Smelting and Forging
• Stone Carving
• Stained Glass Making
• Linen and Traditional Embroidery

Whether you’re a complete beginner, an artist looking to develop new skills, or simply fascinated by Irish heritage, these workshops provide an opportunity to experience traditional craftsmanship in the very type of building where many of these skills were originally developed.

Places on each workshop are limited to ensure participants receive individual guidance.

These projects are funded by the Community Heritage scheme of the Heritage Council.
