Join Mary in working studio to learn how quilts are made.
About the Maker
Mary started making patchwork quilts in 1992. Although she loved to sew everything from baby clothes to wedding dresses, quilting captured her heart with its combination of practicality, artistic expression, and a historical connection to the traditional skills of American women.
Since moving from Madison, Wisconsin 18 years ago, Mary has been making quilts in her studio on Inis Oírr. Based on traditional patterns with a modern aesthetic, she is strongly influenced by the flowers, fields, and seascapes of her home in the West of Ireland.
Mary is also making a variety of upcycled pieces from leftover quilt scraps, old clothes, and some factory off cuts from Foxford Woolen Mill. You can find these on her website, McQuilties.ie, along with information on how to commission your own McQuilties quilt.
