Create a unique fused glass artwork inspired by the story, landscape and musical heritage behind Limavady’s world-famous Danny Boy melody.
Explore the story and spirit behind the famous song Danny Boy in this creative fused glass workshop for adults. Inspired by the musical heritage of Limavady, where the melody was first collected in the 19th century, participants will design and create a unique fused glass panel reflecting the landscape, emotion, and legend connected to this beloved piece of music.
The workshop begins with a short introduction to the history of the tune, often known as the Londonderry Air, and its connection to the Roe Valley and the surrounding countryside. Using this story as inspiration, participants will explore how colour, texture, and composition can capture the atmosphere of the place where the melody is said to have been heard.
Guided through the process of fused glass design, you will select from a range of coloured glass, frits, and decorative elements to create a layered glass panel. Your artwork might reflect the rolling landscapes, flowing river, musical notes, or abstract interpretations of the song’s emotion and heritage. Once completed, each piece will be kiln-fused to permanently bond the glass layers, transforming your design into a luminous artwork that captures both the beauty of glass and the cultural story behind the music.
