Botanical Impressions is a series of hands-on workshops exploring the colours, textures, and image-making possibilities found in plants. Drawing inspiration from traditional craft practices, printmaking, natural dyeing, and early photographic processes, these sessions invite participants to discover how leaves, flowers, roots, berries, and sunlight can become tools for creative expression.

Whether you’re an artist, gardener, maker, or simply curious about working with natural materials, these workshops offer an opportunity to slow down, observe closely, and experiment with the colours, patterns, and forms found in the natural world.

All materials are provided, and we’ll pause mid-morning for tea, coffee, and homemade scones.

Workshops run from 10.00am to 1.00pm on Thursday and Saturday mornings.

No previous experience is required. Unsuitable for under 16 years old.

Workshop 1: Making Botanical Inks & Pigments

Discover the colours hidden within plants and learn how to transform leaves, flowers, berries, roots, and kitchen botanicals into beautiful natural inks and pigments.

In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore simple techniques for extracting colour, creating botanical inks, and modifying shades through natural processes. Through colour charts, mark-making, and creative experimentation, we will uncover the rich and often surprising palette offered by the natural world.

Participants will leave with practical knowledge, reference samples, and inspiration for continuing their own botanical colour experiments at home.
