BLUE brings together the makers of MADE in Kilkenny in a collective exploration of the theme through many different materials, processes and traditions. From hand-thrown ceramics and woven baskets to contemporary jewellery, blankets, candles, furniture and creafted objects for living, each maker responds to BLUE in their own distinct language. For some, BLUE evokes water, landscape and sky; for others it suggests memory, stillness, depth, ritual or transformation. Indigo dyes, cobalt glazes, soft textiles, flickering light and precious materials all become part of a rich conversation between colour and craft.
Rooted in material knowledge and contemporary design, the exhibition celebrates the diversitymof Kilkenny’s maker community while revealing the many emotional and symbolic resonances of “BLUE”- a colour that can be both quiet and powerful, familiar and mysterious. Yogether the works form a vibrant and tactile meditation on colour, place and making.
