Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the traditional heritage craft of basket making in the magnificent surroundings of Castle Coole in a cosy room in the Grand Yard.
In this willow weaving session, participants will create an authentic Irish skib basket, a distinctive shallow willow basket traditionally used for straining and serving potatoes in Irish homes.
Using natural sustainable willow and time-honoured weaving techniques, you will learn how to construct the basket’s base, shape its sides, and weave a beautiful decorative border. Finished pieces make excellent serving trays or decorative wall pieces.
Suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike, this workshop offers an opportunity to learn a traditional craft, develop practical basketry skills, and create a beautiful and functional handmade basket to take home.
Cost £85pp. Includes all materials and refreshments of tea, coffee and biscuits.
