Art of the Possible: Ten Years of Collecting International Applied Art

Join  Kim Mawhinney, Senior Curator of Art at National Museums NI as she reveals the techniques, materials and inspiration behind some of the museums most recent works of craft and applied arts.

Over the past decade, the Ulster Museum has collected a significant number of  important artworks from around the world—many of which have never been seen by the public until now.

Art of the Possible features over 40 artworks made from glass, ceramics, silver, metalwork, jewellery, and wood. These works were created by some of the most talented and important artists and designers working in these materials today. This exhibition highlights the Ulster Museum’s place as one of the leading centres for applied art in the UK and Ireland.

Event Address: Ulster Museum, Botanic Gardens, Belfast, BT9 5AB

Suitable For: All Ages

Accessibility Information

We are constantly working to make our space accessible to all, and the majority of our building is suitable for wheelchair users. However, there are a few areas that are inaccessible. Our visitor services staff will be there to guide you to our accessible routes. We have push wheelchairs available for anyone who may require one and two battery-operated wheelchairs to aid those who need assistance. Please speak to reception if you are in need of a wheelchair and please be aware that they require a second user to operate. Some of our galleries are fitted with stair lifts. These can only be operated by staff – please speak to a visitor guide to use. Many of our galleries have ramped access, check descriptions in the map or ask our team to identify the best route. The Deep Time gallery is not suitable for wheelchairs or buggies. There are also four accessible parking spaces at the Stranmillis Road side of the building.
