Join Róisín every Sunday during August at Unit 18 Trinity in the Community for fun and creative days of re-purposing leather goods.
Bring your old leather items and learn how to give them new life under Róisín’s expert guidance. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just starting out, these events are perfect for anyone looking to learn a new skill and reduce waste.
During the morning session you will look at the leather you bring and see which of the 4 designs are best suited to it. There are 4 patterns to work: a tote bag; a satchel; a laptop cover; and a folio cover.
Cut and plan construction. Róisín will introduce you to the tools you will need to create your piece.
Offcuts will be used to make some personalised key bobs. During this part of the process you can begin to think about ways to personalise your piece.
Róisín will also discuss the multiple types of leather, how to identify them, their end uses and how best to use them.
Bring along your own food or choose from a great selection of food places on the Grand Canal. There is a space in Unit 18 where you can make tea and coffee as well as eat and enjoy your break.
Assemble all the pieces using a variety of stitches. Róisín will demonstrate and have samples to guide you. You will also add your own personal details during this session.
During the last hour Róisín will introduce you to the studio and practice in The Design Tower across the way. If your pieces require snappers or rivets you will have an opportunity to attach these using machines at the studio.
