CTA Contemporary Tapestry Artists Ireland present – A Practical Guide to Weaving Tapestry

Áine Dunne is a tapestry weaver working from her studio in the Boyne Valley on Ireland’s Ancient East coast. She has produced commissions for hotels, churches, LinkedIn International Offices in Dublin and more recently Pinterest’s new Dublin offices. As a member of CTA Contemporary Tapestry Artists Ireland she represents them in this unique hands on tapestry weaving workshop at her studio for August Craft Month.

The workshop will introduce participants to the art of tapestry weaving. The participants will explore tapestry design in Ireland and learn techniques that will help them design their own tapestry piece. Participants will prepare looms, weave patterns, finish their tapestry and bring it home from the studio as a keepsake and inspiration into the world of tapestry weaving.

Who is it for? This workshop is open to complete beginners, interior designers, curators and art investors. By attending one will gain knowledge into the construction of woven art pieces in fabric form. CTA is a collective of Irish tapestry weavers that support each other and come together to exhibit woven tapestry, By doing so this unique group is safegaurding the professional heritage skill of tapestry weaving for posterity.

While the subject matter of this collective spans both historic and contemporary concerns the techniques employed to create the weavings are ancient ones. The age old tools of weaving will be used in this workshop along with the guidance of a professional, fulltime tapestry weaver. It is a must for anyone curious about tapestry weavings, where they come from and how they are constructed.
