The Design Tower ACM event
About the event
The Design Tower present an opportunity to discover its history, visit open studios and attend paid workshops.
During the free demonstrations Róisín Gartland (leather artist) and Breda Haugh (jeweller) will highlight their respective practices and give demonstrations in each of their studios.
In the paid workshops that follow participants will have the opportunity, under Róisín’s guidance, to make a leather piece using some of her very special materials. There are a couple of items to choose from.
Róisín’s most recent costume work can be seen in Jesse Jones’ powerful new multi-faceted film installation ‘The Tower’ currently showing at Rua Red gallery.
In the paid workshops that follow jewellery demonstrations participants will have the opportunity under Breda’s guidance to create ideas for jewellery/personal ornament. Using supplied materials such as papers, pencils, metals, wax etc., participants will draw and make images and assemble shapes, all to create wearable pieces.
Breda has created special pieces for the National Museum of Ireland which are available in their museum shops. Her work is included in the ‘Made in Ireland’ exhibition currently on show at Farmleigh Gallery.
