Meaningful Conversations Book Club
About the event
The Subversive Stitch : Embroidery and the Making of the Feminine
By Rozsika Parker
Greywood Arts 2022 programme Meaningful Conversations investigates the role of the arts and creativity in exploring challenging topics. Each month’s book will be selected by an artist and the meeting will include a hands-on creative activity. This session will be facilitated by Kate Wilson, a Scottish artist whose artistic practice is centered around celebrating the community-based crafting practices and regional dialects that occupy today’s rural landscapes.
Rozsika Parkers re-evaluation of the reciprocal relationship between women and embroidery has brought stitchery out from the private world of female domesticity into the fine arts, created a major breakthrough in art history and criticism, and fostered the emergence of todays dynamic and expanding crafts movements.
